How to Move Your Office Computers

It is never good to act hastily when packing electronic items especially computers.

Even if you have hired a professional office moving company to pack and move your computers, you should always have the packing process under your supervision because inadequate and unsafe packing will result in failure and damage of your computers. Your supervision during packing will ensure that the computers are packed appropriately.

Below are are a few tips you might want to keep in mind while packing computers.

Backup

Always prepare a backup of your data before packing computers. Hard disk failures are quite common these days and it is possible that your hard disk fails during packing or while on the move. A slightest bump can damage the hardware which will result in loss of data, so it is better to make a backup on an external drive. 

Packing material

In order to pack the computers properly you need the original boxes in which your computers came in. This boxes should have Styrofoam inside for added protection. If you do not have the original boxes then find boxes of an adequate size, fit in the computers and fill the empty spaces with foam or packing material.

Packing the accessories

If you have further computer accessories as well such as keyboards and printers, then make sure you pack them appropriately as well to minimize the risk of damage.

Again, it is ideal to pack such accessories in their original boxes. In case of printers, especially laser printers, make sure to first remove the cartridge and pack it separately to eliminate the risk of ink spilling during the move.

Large Screens and Television Sets

They should be first covered with foam so that they don’t get damaged by small bumps while moving. Once the foam is used, computers and electronic devices should be slid in box of appropriate sizes. Management of Boxes

Some companies buy boxes especially for moving. This is one form of waste where money is wasted. The best way of getting boxes is by saving them a month before your office move. If you get boxes with the items you buy then simply do not throw them out.

Another way of getting free boxes is by contacting the nearest grocery stores or retailers. Many stores are kind enough to give out used empty boxes for free. Once you have used the boxes and moved to a new office location, do not forget to recycle those boxes.

Packing Materials

While most companies get bubble wrap and special packing material for wrapping and for filling up empty spaces in the boxes, another great alternative is using newspaper. Fragile items can be easily wrapped with newspaper and this is a cost effective alternative that will save up some money on packing material.

Dispose Appropriately

When you move out of your current office, make sure that all the hazardous materials are disposed appropriately. Such materials might include unused paint, cleaning sprays and other hazardous items. Your local waste management company will guide you best in these matters.

Donations
